Daniel and the Gentle Lions

Daniel and the Gentle Lions

A Surprising New Law

In the shining city of Babylon, King Darius made a puzzling rule: for thirty days, everyone had to pray only to him. Kind‑hearted Daniel, who loved and trusted God, knew he couldn’t stop his daily prayers—so he opened his window toward Jerusalem and prayed as usual.

Into the Lions’ Den

Jealous officials spied on Daniel and hurried to tell the king. Because the law couldn’t be changed, King Darius—very sad—ordered Daniel placed in a deep, stone lions’ den. “May your God keep you safe,” the king whispered as the heavy door slid shut.

A Night of Courage

Inside the dark den, huge lions padded around. Daniel’s heart thumped, yet he knelt and prayed. Suddenly, a bright angel appeared, gently stretching out a hand. At once, every lion lay down like sleepy kittens, their roars turning into soft purrs.

Dawn’s Big Surprise

At sunrise, King Darius hurried to the den. “Daniel, has your God rescued you?” he called. Daniel’s cheerful voice echoed back: “My God sent an angel to shut the lions’ mouths. I’m perfectly safe!” Joyful servants pulled Daniel up, completely unharmed.

A New Royal Decree

Amazed, King Darius wrote a fresh law: everyone should honor the living God who saves and protects. From that day on, children across the kingdom told the tale of brave Daniel, the peaceful lions, and the God who stayed awake all night to keep His friend safe.

As you close your eyes tonight, remember Daniel’s courage: no matter how dark the den, God’s love can turn roaring lions into gentle friends.
